A lot of people do not want to feel alone, lonely, and depressed. It is most often the reason that people do things that make them happy. People buy things that they think make them happy . . . on the spot.
Not a lot of people realize that quite a lot of times, making somebody else happy can actually bring smiles to their faces. In the age of social media, where everybody can get their hands filled with all types of news (fake or real, good or bad, positive or negative), the news they consume can directly affect their happiness.
There are segments in a lot of popular media dedicated to showcasing the good deeds of some people. But still, negative seems to outweigh the positive. And that also translates to how much negative vibes most people absorb from the news.
If the news about a child helping others especially the elderly can tug at your heart and “restore” your “faith in humanity,” you could benefit from doing simple acts of kindness yourself. Perhaps when buying lunch, you could consider buying lunch for one homeless person you see on the street. You could let people go first (or before you) in the queue. You could open doors of establishments for other people. Or you could offer a sincere smile.
You do not know what others are going through in life. Sure, there may be just people seemingly born with impossible attitudes, but there are some who are just going through really terrible times that a simple act of kindness may give them the hope that they just needed to continue facing the challenges they are currently experiencing. Who knows, the sincere smile or the “Have a good day” you offer to someone can actually make their day better.
Sometimes, it’s the little things that count. Making someone smile (or laugh heartily) can increase your good mood (also of the person you smiled at). A smile can go a long way in brightening a person’s day. Everyone loves to feel good. It’s good for the heart.
