Sadness is not a bad thing. It can happen to anyone at anytime, and it can drag a person down–to some people, it can be a short time, for others, it can take quite a while.
Sometimes, a person knows exactly why they are feeling sad. Other times, they don’t. Have you ever experienced being sad but you do not know particularly why? “I may just be having the blues,” you could say. Because, as mentioned, sadness can happen to anyone at any time.
Sadness is not necessarily a bad thing. It is one of the emotions that humans feel. It has been said that for one to be able to feel fully happy, one must also know how it feels to be sad.
Instead of escaping the feeling of sadness, when it “attacks” you, you could perhaps take the time to slow down and understand yourself even more. You could ask yourself why you are feeling sad. You could also assess yourself how soon should you “snap out of it” especially if it keeps dragging you down and not giving you the encouragement you need to go on with life. This could be going into the direction of depression.
There are activities you could do or engage in to lift your spirits up. Some people find it helpful when they watch something funny, like comedies (movies, TV shows, or even stand-up comedy). Some people do exercises or take long walks. Some go to retail “therapy” and also food.
Your feelings are all valid, and it is healthy to acknowledge that they are happening instead of denying them. Indulging in some self-care and pampering should help ease up some of those blues and grays. An upbeat music sometimes does the trick of picking you up. What you feel translates to how you act. It would be quite obvious especially to the people that know you and love you when you’re feeling “the blues.” Some of them, the real ones, will throw away whatever it is they are doing to help cheer you up. This should already be one way to rejuvenate you.
